The Smartest and Fastest Way to Rebuild Your Business—Conquer Your Ego.

Writer: Andre AbouzeidAndre Abouzeid

Everything you want lies on the other side of your ego. To reach your goals, you must set aside your ego and embrace teamwork.

My Story and Lessons in 24 Years of Direct Selling.

For over 24 years, I’ve been in direct selling, witnessing incredible journeys—people rising to new heights, earning great incomes, and transforming their lives. But I’ve also seen how ego can bring everything crashing down. When people let their egos take over, they start acting bossy, controlling, and distant. This not only harms their business but often shatters relationships. Income drops, sometimes to a quarter of what it was, and isolation grows as they push their team members away.

I’ve been there too. In times of success, I thought I didn’t need anyone else. But I learned the hard way that ego can destroy what you’ve built. This experience taught me humility and showed me the importance of teamwork. In direct selling, we only succeed by lifting others. If one person makes a mistake, everyone is affected, just like my mentor Joseph Bismark said: "We are all in the same boat."

There was a time when we all worked as a family, supporting each other and growing together. But as success came, egos grew, and people started to form their own “tribes.” This led to conflicts, separations, and a negative atmosphere. It was a reminder that we achieve more together than we do alone.

What Really Works: Humility, Gratitude, and Unity.

The fastest way to rebuild your business is to leave ego behind and rebuild relationships. Go back to being a servant leader. Offer support, respect, and unity with everyone, whether you benefit financially from them or not.

Every morning, I think back to my early days and list five things I’m thankful for. This practice keeps me grounded and reminds me of what really matters.

Simple Steps to Keep Ego in Check and Grow Your Business.

1.Reconnect with Your Team.

Make an effort to know your team members’ goals and struggles. Listen to their ideas, offer support, and create a safe environment where everyone feels valued. When your team is strong, your business grows.

2. Choose Teamwork Over Competition.

By working together with others in your company, you build a stronger, more united front. Collaboration leads to shared success and a bigger impact for everyone.

3. Be a Servant Leader.

Leaders who serve their teams earn trust and loyalty. A humble leader is approachable, supportive, and focused on team growth. Letting go of ego allows you to lead effectively.

4. Start with Gratitude.

Begin each day by listing five things you’re grateful for. This practice keeps you grounded and reminds you of the journey you’ve taken, helping keep your ego in check.

5. Forgive and Let Go of Grudges.

Holding onto past mistakes or conflicts drains energy. Letting go of grudges frees you to focus on building a positive future with your team.

Conclusion:

Overcoming ego is a daily practice. By leading with humility, practicing gratitude, and uniting with others, you create a foundation for lasting success. Humility isn’t just a good habit—it’s essential if you want a business that stands the test of time.
